My Experience with the After Effects of BCG

In late May of 2018, I experienced copious blood in my toilet during a usual morning void. I learned quickly this was to be hematuria.

That led to my diagnosis

An immediate call to my urologist began a series of tests: blood, urine, 6 cystoscopies, etc. This graduated to a full-blown TURBT operation (several days in the hospital), followed by a series of BCG (Bacillus Calmette-Guerin) procedures. The result: carcinoma in situ of the bladder.

Dealing with some side effects

The carcinoma was cleansed from the bladder as reported by my urologist. However, the BCG procedures did a number on my urinary tract (urethra). Two urine cultures ruled out any infection. What followed was constant pain in my urinary tract. I tried AZO, later changed to Pyridium (Dr. Rx), but these were discontinued due to possible effects to my kidneys.

Have you ever experienced pain down there?

My question: I would like to hear from anyone who may have experienced similar pain and discomfort in their urethra area. If so, what pain reliever they may have discovered. Thank you...
