Child Bladder Cancer

As a kid, I always had bladder infections. When I was 13 years old, they found a bladder cyst inside my bladder, it was cancer. I was left in the dark about it. My parents didn’t want me to know.

When the cancer was removed, I remember how painful it was when I woke up in the hospital. I was then put in the hospital every 4 months for a year to see if it had come back.

On my own, I then found out the reason for these procedures. I was told I’d never have to have it checked out again. I had no chemo or no radiation. When I became an adult, I had myself checked every 5 years.

I’m 62 years old now. It has been at least 10 years since I was tested. I never told anyone that I had cancer until I was in my 50’s. I don’t know why. Has this happened to anyone else?

This is my story.
