Abdominal pain/discomfort

For the past few days I have been experiencing abdominal pain and discomfort. It's been almost 2 months since my RC. I had some issues before the surgery but I don't recall them being this bad. I've had constipation issues after the surgery, mostly soft thin stools that seem hard to completely move out. My surgery team suggested I see a GI doctor. I had an appointment with my gastroenterologist's PA and he said I should drink more fluids and fiber rich foods, which I have been doing since after the surgery. He also suggested I take Miralax and Citrucel 2 times a day. I have been doing all this for 4 days but still feel the pain. It was also suggested I may have IBS, which causes constipation. Has anyone experienced something similar after RC? I'd appreciate some feedback.

  1. Hi. My RC was done as part of a bigger op and involved getting a colostomy too so don’t have the traditional post RC experience to share but I know others have had issues. 1. - I am sorry to hear that you are still having digestive issues post OP. I used Miralax but only had issues for a few weeks post surgery. I am not a medical professional but would think that if these options were helping you, you would notice some sort of relief. I have some IBS and it causes me to have diarrhea but any pain, bloating or uncomfortable feeling goes away immediately following a bowel movement. I suggest keeping a diary of what you are eating, taking for the problem and when they symptoms begin. I found post RC that I had to watch spicy foods and pretty much anything with caffeine or it caused digestive challenges. I hope that you are able to find the cause and get some relief soon. Keep us updated on how you are doing. My best Linda Urbanski (moderator, Bladdercancer.net team member)
