I have had BCG and now Gemzar chemo, I have never been able to hold it in for more then 1 hour. I am curious what others have experianced.

    1. @amenit - I have read from patients on this site and other sites that not everyone has been able to hold the liquid for the entire time. I did not choose to go this route so therefore cannot provide personal experience. I wish you the very best during these treatments and hope that they are successful. Please keep us updated as to how you are doing. Linda Urbanski ( moderator, Bladdercancer.net team member)

      1. I can tell you I have had 14 BCG instillations and was told to try and keep it in the bladder for 2 hours. The first six rounds were a doddle but with the maintenance follow ups it became increasingly difficult to meet the 2 hour threshold. I could manage around one and a half hours max. 1. @Jacaranda07 - thank you for sharing this information. I am sure that your experience will be of benefit to others having BCG also. My best Linda Urbanski ( moderator, Bladdercancer.net team member)

      2. I have had both BCG and 3 different chemo treatments intravesically. I had no problem with BCG (12 installations). With Gemcitabine I could only hold between 1 -1.5 hours. I had no problem with docetaxel or mytomicin. So I think it is one's individual chemistry that determines how we react to the intravesical treatments. I was told that they were cumulative tho so could become harder to hold with more treatments.
