Cytology Results

I just got copied on my cytology results. They say that I am negative for high grade urothelial carcinoma but that I have scattered urothelial cells and squamous cells present. I have a CT tomorrow and my next doctor appt isn't until June 4. I'm curious if anyone here has had a similar cytology result like mine. I'm relieved about the negative result but concerned about the squamous cells being present. Anyone have any idea what this might mean? Otherwise, I guess I just wait until June 4...🙁

  1. @toekneek - I am disappointed that any test results would be emailed to someone prior to being discussed by phone or in person. Certainly that would have allowed you to ask questions at that time. Hopefully you will get answers soon. I am not a medical person and cannot provide medical advice but if you google it you may find answers. Good luck and let us know what you find out. Linda -( moderator, Bladdercancer.net team member)

    1. Hi , I am so sorry you have to go through this waiting period for more concrete answers. I'm happy to hear it's a no for the high-grade urothelial carcinoma! Steps in the right direction. Sadly, you're the first person to mention scattered urothelial and squamous cells to my knowledge, so I have no info. Was there any mention of whether treatment would be necessary? Could you please keep us posted on any information you get back? We'd like to support you the best way we can. Wishing you the VERY BEST on June 4th!

      1. Thank you all for the replies. I had my appointment today and he said he needs to do a cystoscopy to rule out cancer. Like someone mentioned, he said the urine test can’t be relied upon 100%, so he said that scoping my bladder is the best way forward. His main concern is that I still have blood in the urine. I had kidney stones 6 months ago and they are gone, so trying to figure out why the blood is still in there. Thanks again and I will update after my cystoscopy.

        1. @toekneek - we will be thinking of you and certainly hoping that your tests come out in your favor. It is good that your medical provider wants to be entirely sure of the diagnosis. Hopefully you can find out what is causing the blood in your urine soon. My best to you. Linda ( moderator, Bladdercancer.net team member)

      2. Thanks for all the input. I had my cystocopy yesterday. My doctor said it looked good in general, but there was one spot he saw that he said he wants to keep an eye on. He said we'd probably do another in about four months. So I guess good news for now.

        1. @toekneek - I am happy to hear that your have more information from your doctor and that he is recommending a follow up in a few months. Being vigilant is extremely important with this disease as things can change quickly. Please keep us posted on how things are going and know that we are thinking of you and here for you. Take a breath and try to put this out of your mind as much as possible. My best to you. Linda ( moderator, Bladdercancer.net team member)
