I am a 70 year old male with history of BPH that has been controlled ok with med Dutaturide. I generally get up 2-3 times per night to urinate, manageable to me. Recently I went to urinate befor ebed and counlnt. No urgency, just wouldn't work. An hour of two later woke and still no urgency, third to urinate and couldn't.
I was now concerned. And hour later when still couldn't pee I knew there was something serious wrong.
I went to er at 3am and after some waiting they took me into a room and didnt describe what was to be done. Female just said I am probably not going to enjoy, she was going to empty my bladder and preceded to begin the cystoscopy. The pain was unbearable.
I keep reading these reviews from folks who say it wasnt bad and dont understand that. This is the worse pain I have ever experienced and I have had my share of very painful experiences.
I would never agree to get this done again unless I was under anesthesia. It was truly barbaric. It reminded me of an old westernTV show when they remove a bulled from a guy who was shot by just sticking a rag in his mouth and the yanking it out.
I cannot even describe how painful it was, I will never forget it. Do yourself a favor and get some kind of numbing at worse or anesthesia at best.
After this procedure a few hours later I needed emergency kidney surgery and they could have done the cystoscopy then, I was not happy.
After the kidney surgery the recovery is also quite painful when trying to uriniate and I was given strong opiods to help manage the pain, but as painful as that recovery was, it did not compare to the pain of that cystoscopy.
