Indiana pouch

I have had Indiana pouch now for 18 years I feel now I am getting a lot of mucas not getting a lot out of catheter had a lot of pain in tummy went for X-ray at hospital they said I had constipation but still going every day to poo but now still getting gripping pain any ideas what it could be the doctor is sending me to urologist just wondering what it could be does an Indiana pouch need to get done again after having this one for years I thought maybe it would not work the same as you get older

  1. - I only know of a few people who have IP's and they are doing well and have had them 20 years or more. I am not a medical professional but would think that drinking more water would help reduce the mucus. Also I am not sure why your IP would be related to constipation. I hope that you are able to see the urologist soon to determine what is going on. If you are still having regular bowel movements but have pain also, I suggest seeing a gastroenterologist also, I hope that you are able to find the cause of your pain soon. Keep us posted. 1. Thankyou for your reply

      1. hi. Have you spoken to your medical team about your concerns? I have a urinary diversion but it is a urostomy so unfortunately I can’t share any personal specific experience. With my urostomy, I find I get more mucus if I don’t drink enough fluids or too many fizzy drinks. Laura, Moderator, BladderCancer.net

        1. Hi , I also have an Indiana pouch which was done 11 yrs ago, were you taught how to do bladder washouts to get rid of the mucus in your pouch ? I have less pain & discomfort when there's less mucus and a washout is the only way to keep it clearer.

          1. Hi. thanks for sharing your tip. We have a lot of people on here with urinary diversions but most are with an ileal conduit/urostomy. If you felt comfortable doing so, we would love for you to share your story of getting/living with an Indian pouch here https://bladdercancer.net/stories/new Laura, Moderator, BladderCancer.net
