Is it normal or OK to wait six weeks before BCG therapies

I had originally thought I had a kidney stone. Only slight blood in urine for a few weeks. GP suggested ultrasound and found 2cm urothelial tumor. I had my surgery 2-14-24. I believe she said it was T1 but aggressive. Non muscle wall invasive. My Urologist's plan is for 6 weekly BCG therapies. I was reminded of the shortage of this form of treatment and that I would not begin treatment until six weeks. (Hoping the BCG would be available at that time).

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge that waiting this long to begin therapy is safe or even possibly standard? I know I have to go along with my doc's decision but she is not an oncologist but bladder cancers are her specialty and she provides the surgery. If the BCG is not available, I would need to begin chemotherapy.

  1. Hi I am glad you reached out. If you have any concerns about waiting, I would definitely encourage you to share those with your doctor. You could also seek out a second opinion so that you feel more confident in your decision. I am sending over an article about the BCG shortage and you will see some comments at the end about what people chose to do. I hope this is helpful. Please keep us posted on how you are doing.
