NAC Supplement for Bladder Cancer

Has anyone ever used NAC (N acetyl cysteine) to help treat their bladder cancer? I told my Dad's neighbor about it to help her with side effects from her brain cancer and suddenly she is cured and they no longer see it in the scan! I don't know if it was coincidence or not. I originally found info. about it on YouTube, health articles, and also in a PubMed article on the NIH.gov website. Among many benefits, NAC can inhibit bladder cancer cells. I think they haven't had enough research yet to know for sure if it can benefit people receiving chemo and radiation though. I read an article recently about a study where they gave half of the trial group the NAC around same time as chemo and the other half was given it 4 hours after. If I remember right, the group given it 4 hours after chemo showed more improvement. Anyway, my Dad, who is 82, was just diagnosed with muscle invasive bladder cancer and had a TURBT. I was wondering if anyone has had experience with this type and around this age?

  1. @CommunityMember080caa - I am not familiar with this but also am not a medical professional. As a nearly 9 year cancer survivor, i chose to follow treatments discussed and suggested by my medical team. I would discuss anything your father is considering with his medical team as this form of cancer can be very aggressive. I wish you and your father the best and hope that he is able to find a successful treatment. Linda Urbanski (moderator, Bladdercancer.net team member)
