I am a 74 yr old male. BC was diagnosed Sep '21, Turbt was done Nov '21, RC was done May '22. I'm dealing with the change quite well. A new diagnosis, parastomal hernia, has me searching for answers & options. Thank you for any input.

  1. @charwick - I am happy to hear that you are doing well post RC. Unfortunately a possible after effect of this surgery can be a parastomal hernia. I developed one 5 years post op. I suggest finding a hernia belt that is comfortable for you. I use a Nu-hope belt and stealth belt is another option that people like. As my stoma and hernia are below the waist Nu-hope works best for me. My doctor said to watch the hernia and leave it alone if it is not causing problem. It does not cause issues so I have left it alone. Hope that this helps out. My best Linda Urbanski ( moderator, Bladdercancer.net team member)

    1. hi. Welcome. Like Linda,
I (just) reached the 5 year mark and have been told I have the start of a hernia behind my colostomy (I have that as well as a urostomy). I agree the best option is to beg some support wear of garment. Laura , Moderator, BladderCancer.net
