new overwhelmed

I m not sure what to do here so I guess I just start posting. Im 72 just got told have cancer in bladder. Have to set up different scans to see if has traveled. I have no insurance some people are trying to help in this. I do have some money in bank so dont qualify for medicade. Applied for help but having trouble getting the soc worker Medi-cade) to call back so time period up and got denied without reason. Need denial for another avenue getting help to see if qualify. I am so overwhelmed Im so afraid of ending in a position losing house which is also owned by my daughter who has a 6 year old to take care of. I think I will stop for now and see if im even posting in proper way. TY

  1. @mtuddles - I wish you were not given this diagnosis. I know how overwhelming it can be. As for insurance, it appears from your comments about medicaid that you live in the US. If that is the case, you should be on Medicare due to your age. Also Obamacare is available to you at minimal cost. Have you looked into those as well? 1. Thank you for sharing your heart and concerns. Yes, you have used the site perfectly! It's ok to check in and post what is so for you. We are here to listen and support.

As a licensed financial coach, your predicament is one that absolutely breaks my heart. That this country has capitalized our health is such a shame. You will not be able to get governmental help if you have more than $2,000 in assets or cash, which seems so unfair to me!

Please try to protect your heart and mind during these times. Don't be afraid to lean in and ask your daughter for support. How can we here help you as well?

Hoping for the absolute best for you and this unwelcome battle!

All the best, Charles (Moderator / BladderCancer.net)

      1. TY so much I sit here and it seems so un real as I feel fine,

    2. Its 630 in the morning havent slept much first of 3 scans scheduled today. before i get final word on my prognosis. Mostly calm then total stress. if i exhausts my bank account am i going to have to take a mortgage on my house which is co owned with my daughter. Will i be able to get help without affecting house. My very biggest concern is putting my daughter at risk to lose the house she has a 6 year old to raise yet. I know I wont get help with medicade if I try to put house in just her name . It doesn't seem fair to her. I know I really shouldn't jump the gun but the Uroligest seemed to act as if he knows already serious. Part of me feels so surreal because no pain. I wouldn't even know if not for the severe UTI . I had never had a uti before. I wish I didnt know and would have just passed in my sleep. The uroligest has already indicated I probably will not be a candidate for surgery as i also have been diagnosed with COPD.

      1. @mtuddles - I wish you were not so stressed but certainly understand until you know what you are dealing with. I would try to think positively and know that you will have answers soon. As for the financial situation, have you looked into Medicare, not Medicaid. You are over 65 and should be on that anyway unless you worked a job that did not pay into the system. I would take this time to look into your options versus thinking that you may need to take equity from your home. There are people who can help you look into these options so that may be something to seriously consider now so you are prepared. My best to you. Keep us updated.
