New to this and terrified

So maybe 6 months ago I went to the dr and he found a trace of RBC in urine, let it go. I don't go to drs very often so 2 weeks ago I went because I got a rash at work, again found a trace in my urine. I'm a 43 yr old male, I'm schedule for an appointment but it's 6 weeks away.....

  1. - You are very wise to have this blood checked out for a cause. That will give you some peace of mind that you have had it investigated. As for the 6 week wait for an appointment, I suggest that you call and add your name to a waitlist for any cancelled appointments. Also, are you going to see a urologist or general practitioner? I suggest a urologist if you are seeing a GP. Keep us updated and know that we are always here to answer any questions that we can from our personal experiences and to provide support. 1. glad you are getting things checked out. Definitely push to see a urologist to get a proper assessment. Laura, Moderator, BladderCancer.net

      1. @me too, I have really no symptoms aktho I think my anxiety is making me have symptoms. I feel fine I notice no blood in urine no pain. I'm 43 I use to smoke but quit a year ago. Dr did blood test trace of blood then sent me for ultrasound on June 15...,..I read that the chances of me having this is minimal but doesn't help my anxiety.

        1. - The good news is that you will have some answers after your appointment. I hope that even though you have been told that your chances are low of having cancer, that the hematuria is taken seriously. Frequently a cystoscopy is done which is a test that shows the inside of your bladder with a very small camera. I did not have blood in my urine but that was how I was diagnosed. Keep us updated on things. Anxiety is common with the unknown so we understand that completely. Try to take your mind off things and assume that your doctor is correct that this is something else and will be diagnosed soon. My best to you. 2. anxiety definitely is understandable and sometime I think we do try to second guess what if anything is wrong. While a large percentage of cases are in older people, definitely important to be vigilant. I was 40 years old at diagnosis. Take care and wishing you well. Laura, Moderator, BladderCancer.net

      2. I don't really understand the numbers, I just read for my age it's not very common but doesn't mean it's not the case. I'm suppose to do a cytology test? I think that is what it is where I pee and wait three hours. I'm afraid to do it because then what? Scary. I'm just anxious that I'm going to die before my time..,can't get it out of the mind.

        1. - In my humble opinion the not knowing what is going on causes more anxiety. Firstly, it may not be cancer at all. Secondly, when caught early, bladder cancer can be very treatable - if you even have that. Remember that many of us on here are survivors so we are still here. Try not to worry so much as it really is not beneficial in any way. Do you know what kind of cytology test it is? I have a Fish test done annually versus a simple urine cytology test. If you are in good health otherwise that is also good. Try not to let this consume your thoughts or it will do that. Assume that whatever it is, you will get through it. We are here for you so reach out any time. You got this!! My best Linda Urbanski (moderator, Bladdercancer.net team member)

        2. the important thing is they are already looking into things for you, hopefully to rule them out. Early detection is so important so you are doing all the right things. I know it is hard but try not think what if scenarios. The unknown us the hardest. Hope you get the answers you need soon.
