Anyone to share experiences with Gemcitabine and Docetaxel?

I was not success with two series of BCG so starting tomorrow my urologist will begin the Gem/Doc protocol with me. I believe the timing will be similar as the 6week BCG but there will be the two chemotherapies inserted one after the other. With my BCGs it was a quick 5 minute procedure but I've read this will take a couple of hours in the clinic because I will have to remain there for both insertions and hold them for an hour for each. Maybe longer? I would appreciate anyone's experiences with this and any outcomes. Was there any negative symptoms or side effects and if so, how did you deal with it. I was diagnosed with bladder cancer in Nov. 24.

  1. Hi I just wanted to check in on you and see how you are doing now that you have started with the new treatment? How long did you have to stay at the clinic? I hope you are feeling ok and do not have any side effects. Jill (Team Member)

    1. It's interesting to read your note because as I was reading it yesterday while on my cell phone, killing time. I was literally lying down on the exam table waiting for my hour and half to run its time out. The prep then insertion of the Gemcitibine took only a few minutes but then I had to spend 1-1/2 hours there in the exam room. I had the liberty to get off the table and sit on a chair if I wanted to but I know my bladder tends to be over-active with gravity so I stayed flat but with my legs in the stirrups for the full 1-1/2 hour. The MA then came in, drained the Gem with the catheter that had remained and then inserted the "Doce." I was then allowed to dress and go home. It's an hour drive between doctor and home so I was able to void as soon as I got home. Bleach in the toilet is part of the protocol so there's that. Within about 2 hours I began to feel a bit flu-like. Very tired and achy so I took a nap. Still felt lousy around 9 pm and took an Aleve and went to bed. Slept 9 hours and woke feeling great. I am hopeful that this same routine will continue for the following 5 treatments. I can deal with with flu-like symptoms if they can be dealt with as I did yesterday. Thank you for asking. Much appreciated.

      1. that is great to hear. I really hope this continues for you and you only have mild flu like symptoms. Please keep us posted! Jill (Team Member)
