Painful bladder

I have posted here in the past about this very subject. Last May I had a cystoscopy after having 15 BCG instillations starting in 2020. The nurse who carried out the procedure was concerned the red patches in the bladder were CIS. So I had biopsies carried out last July. I saw the surgeon in October and he said results were negative and it was purely down the BCG immunotherapy. He did say the pain and discomfort will eventually go in time but it seems to be taking forever. I suffer on a daily basis and wonder if there are others out there with the same problems.
I would be interested on how they cope and indeed what medicines they may take to relieve the symptoms. Thankyou for listening.

  1. @CommunityMember121 - I did not personally choose BCG for treatment so I can only provide information from what others have tried. If you are having pain during urination I know some recommend AZO over the counter. If it is irritation in the bladder from the treatments I personally do not have any suggestions except to make sure you are drinking plenty of water to flush things out. If I may ask, how recently did you have a BCG treatment? I know that everyone reacts differently and that these treatments and tests can cause painful irritation inside the bladder for some. Has your doctor provided any suggestions for relief? If your last test or treatment was in July, that does seem like a long time to still have discomfort. I wish I could provide more suggestions on this but I am sure others who have had BCG may add comments to help out. My best to you. Linda Urbanski ( moderator, Bladdercancer.net team member)

    1. I did in fact have my 15th and last instillation on 29 September 2021. After my cystoscopy in the following December they stopped them because it was causing this inflammation. I have carried that inflammation since then. All the doctors seem to say is it will dissipate on its own. The last visit he did turn around and say at least you know that the bcg has done it's job. Not so comforting when it causes problems. I'm a fairly positive man and wake up hoping the day ahead will be better than the one before.

      1. hi. I am not medically trained nor do I have e any personal experience to share. I wound definitely talk again to your doctor and say while you understand from them that it may take time to ease, you would like some support in managing the pain meantime. You could ask the question here in the forum, as many people have BCG experience to share. Wishing you well. https://bladdercancer.net/forums Laura, Moderator, BladderCancer.net
