Radiotherapy

Hi guys just to ask did anyone have a scan where they put radiotherapy dye into you for bladder cancer ! Husband had treatment to remove tumor and it went off for biopsy we haven’t heard anything but they have asked him to go for another scan with the radioactive stuff !! Just wondering why that would be. Thankyou

  1. ? I did not have one but had heard of them and wonder if that is what this test is. I would ask what this test is as it certainly should be on his records and should have been explained to him prior in my opinion. I wish you both the best. Your husband is very luck to have you beside him throughout this journey. Keep us posted. Linda Urbanski (moderator, Bladdercancer.net team member)

  2. I hope your husband is recovering well from his treatment to remove the tumor for biopsy. As there are different types of radioactive and nonradioactive dyes used for radiotherapy and because I am not medically trained, I can't provide a full answer on the scans requested by your husbands medical team. But I think has given the best advice: ask for clarification from your husband's healthcare team.

A member of our editorial team have written something that may be useful to you and your husband. We have an article about the different imaging tests that may be requested. You can read more here: https://bladdercancer.net/diagnosis/imaging-tests.

Wishing you the best for the scan and please keep us updated on how everything goes. Phil, Moderator,

    1. I am not medically trained but it sounds like it is possibly a PET Scan. I had a couple of them. It is called a PET Scan but usually combined with a CT Scan. A PET-CT scan combines a CT scan and a PET scan. The PET scan uses a mildly radioactive drug to show up areas of your body where cells are more active than normal. It is usually used to get a more detailed image and to check if there is any cancer cells which can't be seen by other scans. Often used before/after treatment or surgery to plan what is needed/check progress. I would definitely ask the medical team to confirm more information on the scan itself and the reason they are doing it. Laura, Moderator, BladderCancer.net
