Scared witless

Hello. I have not yet been diagnosed but ... I had a lot of blood and I mean a lot and also some clots. Went to see GP who sent a sample to the lab, can back no infection. I fought him on being referred due to being frightened but he insisted and I am on the two week pathway. Everything I read is saying that gross blood and clots is advanced bladder cancer. Can't eat, can't sleep and just want to curl up in bed and forget. Help

  1. @Puttypoo - I completely understand your concern as blood in your urine needs investigation. You were correct in seeking out medical care and I hope that you are able to see a urologist soon. I am not a medical professional but from my experience, I was sent to a urologist who did a cystoscopy where they doctor can see inside your bladder. I would not get ahead of yourself and assume that you have advanced cancer. I suggest insisting to see a specialist as there is a reason for blood in the urine - something is causing it whether it be cancer or something else and it needs to be checked out. I also suggest not going overboard on the internet as there is good, bad, ugly and not necessarily accurate info on there also. Try not to self diagnose but get into a well respected uro or uro/oncologist as soon as possible. I am sorry that you need to fight for this care as it should be readily available. If I may ask, what is the two week pathway? I hope you are able to receive more in depth care in the near future. Try not to think the worst but push to see someone who can give you reasons for this blood, You deserve that. Keep up posted and know that we are here for you and understand your anxiety. 1. Thank you. I have an appointment at a one stop clinic in 10 days. More scared by the minute

      1. @Puttypoo - try not to let this consume your thoughts . Though I know that is easier said than done, until you have more information there is not much more that you can do. At least you have another appointment and hopefully you will know what has caused this and how to treat it if needed. Keep us updated. My best to you. 2. that’s a good step forward. I know it seems still a while away when you are going through it but hopefully you have some answers soon. Sending positive vibes from Scotland. Laura, Moderator, BladderCancer.net

    2. Just so you are aware and maybe my story will ease some of your anxiety, I had gross blood clots in May 22 prior to my first TURBT June 28th. My dx was NONINVASIVE PAPILLARY UROTHELIAL CARCINOMA, LOW GRADE
SMOOTH MUSCLE PRESENT WITHOUT EVIDENCE OF INVASION/TUMOR INVOLVEMENT. The tumors were removed and I was told bladder tumors tend to come back so I was alarmed about my bleeding again two months after my first TURBT in Sept 22. This bleeding bled more steadily and had more blood clots than previous. In OCT 2022, I had a second TURBT and they removed the "tumor". Pathology came back negative for cancer. What the doctor believes is it was inflammation of the bladder caused by the chemo that is administered during g the operation. it is standard procedure to administer the chemo directly into the bladder to try and kill any cancer cells still inside. I go for my third scope in March 23. Hopefully, all will be good for me. I mention my struggle to try and ease your mind somewhat before you get the DX. Just because you bled a lot does not necessarily mean advanced at least in my experience.

      1. I am so glad you did. Your feelings are very natural and exactly how I felt and I am sure most people in our community felt too, especially in the early days. As humans the unknown is scary and our natural instinct is to feel anxious. Once you have all the facts, it will get easier. Take care. Laura, Moderator, BladderCancer.net

      2. @Puttypoo - I think that you will find that once you have answers you will feel much better. I find that my anxiety goes down when I know what I am dealing with. Keep the faith that all will be fine. We are always here to provide you with support and knowledge from our own personal experiences. Keep us posted .
