suprapubic catheter

Does anyone have experience with a suprapubic catheter?

  1. sorry I don’t personally have any experience of one. Is there a specific question about it and perhaps someone else here can assist you. Laura, Moderator, BladderCancer.net

    1. @jesse523 - I am not familiar with that at all but do on occasion read that someone has one. Can you tell me when it is used ? Do you have something specific you would like answers for or is this something that you are considering? Linda ( moderator, Bladdercancer.net team member)

      1. like yourself I have heard of it but don’t know a lot about it. Here is a link I found to explain more about it. https://www.bladderandbowel.org/surgical-treatment/suprapubic-catheter/ Laura, Moderator, BladderCancer.net

      2. @ Laura MaKenzie - I have read on other sites of people who have these. I was more curious as to if this was suggested as an option for the patient. I do not know personally of anyone who has a SPC. Thx. Linda ( moderator, Bladdercancer.net team member)

    2. I currently have one as I just had a neobladder installed on 3/28. They pulled my Foley Catheter last Wednesday and now I am irrigating via the SP catheter. It is much more difficult than using the Foley Catheter. I can't get suction using the syringe to pull the mucous out. So, I have simply been flushing and voiding through the urethra. Not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for in terms of feedback.

      1. thanks for explaining this in more detail. It is great for me to learn more about the neo bladder and the process. You have a structured plan in place and next steps are clear. I know you are still going through the healing process but later on, when you feel stronger, if you felt comfortable doing so, we would love you to share you story. It would be great for others considering a neo bladder to hear fro someone with one. Take care for now and here is the link for down the line. If you felt like it. Take care. https://bladdercancer.net/stories/new Laura, Moderator, BladderCancer.net

      2. @VinceD - thank you for this information. I only know a few people who have a NEO and they have had them for a while so I was not privy to the initial training period. Sounds like things are moving along well and you are on your way to getting back to normal. Thank you for sharing. My best. Linda Urbanski ( moderator, Bladdercancer.net team member)

    3. I had an SPC last year. I will try to answer whatever questions you have.

      1. that is great. Sure some will have some questions for you. Laura, Moderator, BladderCancer.net

      2. @jesse523 - thank you for responding. I am hoping that you will be able to help with questions that others have regarding an SPC. Linda ( moderator, Bladdercancer.net team member)
