Urinary tract infections

I am undergoing BCG treatment, I have had 2 of six installations and have tested positive for a urinary tract infection. I have been prescribed antibiotics and the 3rd BCG installation has been delayed for one week. Has anyone had this problem? Any ideas on what cuases UTIs during this treatment? Is it simply the catheter or is something else going on?

  1. hi. I don’t have personal experience to share and not medically qualified. However I know others have experienced this. I think often it is the catheter which are known from what I read to cause a higher risk of infection. Wishing you well. Hope your recover from the infection soon to allow you to continue with your treatment. Laura, Moderator, BladderCancer.net

    1. infections during BCG are not uncommon
Bacteria are usually present in the urinary tract normally, during the procedure the urinary tract mucosa is breached and the organisms gain access and cause infection

I have had this problem many times, and just a course of antibiotics would put me back on track

I started taking antibiotics immediately after the procedure for 5 days , to avoid delays in the subsequent BCG which worked for me
Ask your doctor if that's an option for you
Hope I have answered your questions
