What can I expect from 1st visit with Uroligist

I will have my 1st appointment with my urologist on 7-7. What should I expect.

  1. @Sandra110 - Has your PCP sent you to the urologist? We are not medical professionals but to be honest it would be difficult for this to be answered without more information. Are you going due to prior test results? Are you scheduled for testing with the urologist? Depending on your respond to this, if it were me I would have some questions prepared. Sorry I am not able to be more helpful Linda ( moderator, Bladdercancer.net team member)

    1. My kidney dr referred me to Uroligist because after doing an ultrasound he found a spot on my bladder. I’m just curious. What do they usually do on the first appointment?

      1. @Sandra110 - I cannot provide medical advice but I would think that the urologist would discuss your history and look over test results. Has anything else been discussed regarding this appt such as a cystoscopy being done or any other tests? It might just be an information getting appt to see what concerns if any that the urologist has. Please keep us updated on how things go. I am sorry that I do not have much more to offer in advice but initial appts can vary widely with medical providers. My best to you. Linda ( Bladdercancer.net team member)

    2. Thank you and I’ll keep you posted.

      1. good luck with your appointment. Only the urology office can really answer that question. Everyone's experience is a bit different and sometimes it depends on what is available to the doctor in the facility you're being seen at. Sometimes things are done right then and other times they need to be scheduled. You would not get a cystoscopy at a first visit though. That must be scheduled. For a lot of places, the practice is to start with an office visit and go from there. It is generally considered poor form to schedule anything invasive or expensive without having an office visit first. ~Liz, Moderator

    3. Sandra - please let us know how things go. And until that time, try to relax and know that we are here to support you any time. Linda ( moderator, Bladdercancer.net team member)
