7 Weeks Since My Neobladder Surgery

I was wondering if someone could provide me with an average time it takes to heal after neobladder surgery.

I had my surgery in early October and had my catheter removed on Halloween. I am still feeling pain in the area of surgery and cannot be on my feet too long before it feels like I'm carrying weight in my stomach. My inner thighs are still swollen and partially numb. I still feel very weak and tired most of the time.

I was told it would be a 2-month recovery. I'm concerned since I'm still feeling this way as I approach week 8.

If anyone could provide some information here, I'd appreciate it.

  1. Hi I wish you were feeling better. While I do hope our community members respond here with their personal experiences, I would definitely recommend you contacting your doctor to let them know how you are feeling, if you haven't done so already. I hope you see an improvement soon, please keep us posted. Jill, bladdercancer.net team

    1. hey, Trett...
      Jo here.
had my rad cystectomy & urinary diversion in June of '22. for me, it was a coupla mnths before the main pains were gone, tho ah was left with a slightly disturbing, almost like a tenderness of the testicles, that continues a yr + later. for the most part, not an issue 'cept ah have to mind how ah sit and on what. 😕
ah experience other little quirks, but,
generally, very glad to be here.
ah apologies for digressing. ah don't talk about this to anyone, so ah guess ah'ma little bottled.
      to ur issue:
ah wld take mah concern directly to my provider without delay, just to be on the safe and certain side. while everyone's body is a little different and mah recovery isn't necessarily ur recovery, if ur in any discomfort then that calls for immediate attention and assessment.
and it has to be said, as one survivor to another, if u have the slightest doubt about ur current provider then do not hesitate at all to seek out a second opinion!
get the facts, ur worth it. 👍🏽✌🏽

      1. Thanks for the response. I went to my provider and they reassured me it would be awhile before things got somewhat close to normal. For now, I'm taking it day by day.

        1. thanks for letting us know. I am glad you were able to see your provider again and you got some answers. Taking it day by day is all you can do, sending lots of support your way. Jill, bladdercancer.net team
