86F bladder cancer update

I posted awhile ago when my mom (86F - 87 in 2 months) was found to have bladder cancer. She had her TURBT surgery a week ago and is recovering well. The urologist told us after that unfortunately they weren't able to remove all of it because some of the spot was in a diverticula or pocket. Mom has known about the bladder pockets for over 50 years so it was known she had them. The dr scraped the inside of the pocket and we're waiting to get pathology back. He said she'll probably do the once a week for 6 weeks treatment with medicine (I don't remember what its called).

Mom is doing alright but is pretty freaked out by it all. She has anxiety and had a really hard time waiting for her surgery and in the recovery room. She doesn't want any more surgery and doesn't know if she can handle the treatments. I'm helping her through it all the best I can and telling her to listen to the doctor.

  1. @Larla77 - It may be the BCG induction treatments that were recommended for your mother. Please know that some patients have these inductions with little or no side effects. The goal it is to find a treatment that works so further surgery is not needed. I understand her anxiety as it is very common. I am sure others will add their comments on how they did at her age or near and have suggestions. Please keep us posted and know that you are both in our thoughts and prayers. 1. Thank you so much. Yes I believe that's what it is. Right now her anxiety is a big concern for me.

      1. Hi. How is your mum getting on? I have had you both in my thoughts. Laura. Moderator, BladderCancer.net

      2. @Larla77 - Have you received path reports and treatment options following that information? I know that the waiting as well as the concern over treatments is stressful. At nearly 87, your mother seems to be fairing well. Hoping you have good news and treatments are underway. Keep us posted. My best to you both. 2. hi. I remember you posting. It is difficult to get your head round bladder cancer at any age. I appreciate at your mum’s age, it will be very overwhelming. I think key is that her wishes are at the forefront of all decisions. Hoping her medical team can explain things in a way that helps her to make the decisions right for her. Thinking of you both. We are here to support anyway we can. Laura, Moderator, BladderCancer.net
