After a radical cystectomy ?

High I have just joined today and would like to ask a question, I had my Bladder removed just over 3 years ago, cancer has gone but I have Bowel problems, Diarrhea comes along evry 7/10 days or so. It shows no sign of going my Doctor took blood samples and nothing was found that might be the cause. My question is does anyone have a similar problem ? or has anyone come across this before ? Jorg

  1. Hi Jorg, thanks for joining! I am an ostomy nurse and do know that many with urostomies do have occasional bowel issues since surgery. I'm sure someone will chime in soon. If you haven't done so already, I
would suggest to keep a food and poop diary to see if you are able to determine the culprit. Also consider taking probiotics and remember to have your colonoscopy. Anita Nurse, moderator, bladdercancer.net

    1. @CommunityMember Jorg - welcome to this group. I am glad that you discussed this with your doctor and had some tests done. I had that problem in the beginning post surgery but it cleared up fairly quickly. I am not a medical professional but wonder if you notice the problem after eating certain foods. I found out that caffeine is something that causes me to have digestive issues and so I keep that to a minimum. It may help to track what you consume for a week or so and see when the problem occurs following a specific food, beverage or type of food. I watch what I eat and stay away from things that cause digestive issues whenever possible. Just a thought. Keep us posted and I hope that you will find a resolution, Linda Urbanski ( moderator, Bladdercancer.net team member)

      1. Thank you for the swift reply's I will try to keep an eye on what I eat, I did suffer with IBS before I had my bladder removed but only every few months this is every 7 days or so but much the same problem.

        1. @CommunityMember Jorg - I am not a medical professional but have found what we eat can really impact us after RC surgery. If you had IBS before it may be possible that it is impacting you again but more frequently. I hope that you are able to find some relief soon. 2. @ - it sounds like it's time to go back to your Gastrointestinal doctor for an evaluation, you might be having a recurrence. Better to check it out early and get treatment now. Sorry, you are going through this. Nurse Anita, moderator, bladdercancer.net
