My husband has bladder cancer had surgeries then bcg treatments. A year later it came back its deeper in bladder hes on his 3rd wk bcg treatments again.but hes tired alot every day so different now he used to be full of energy but not this time.does anyone have cancer deeper in bladder that can tell me anything.i feel bad for him

  1. It takes a lot out of them. I know it's hard to watch. My husband took steroids for a few days after treatment it seemed to help a little. I let him sleep and told myself it's his body's way of healing. One thing to watch for is dizziness or falling. If this happens get him to the ER asap.

    1. @ldean - how is your husband doing? It is very important to stay hydrated and nourished so I hope that he is getting back to having a good appetite. I know that I took a few weeks for mine to come back but then it seemed to be fine. Keep us posted on how you both are. My best Linda Urbanski (moderator, Bladdercancer.net team member)

    2. hi. How are you things with you? Laura, Moderator, BladderCancer.net

  2. Thank u

    1. @Toni57 - I apologize for not doing a good job proofreading my other response. My intention was to convey that having continued surveillance and in your husbands case, testing more often, is a good idea in my opinion. I am not a medical professional but clearly his medical team wants to keep a very close eye on what is going on. Keep us updated. Linda Urbanski ( moderator, Bladdercancer.net team member)

  3. @CommunityMemberc74d19 - Happy to have you on this site. Unfortunately bladder cancer so that is the value in keeping vigilant and continuing to have regular testing. I am not a medical professional so I am not sure what you mean by "deeper in the bladder". Has his grade and/or stage changed since his original diagnosis? Normally BCG is given for stage one so that is a good sign as it is early. Fatigue is very normal as are other side effects with BCG treatments. He is halfway done with the treatments so that is good. I can also say from personal experience that the stress from a cancer diagnosis can also cause fatigue. He is very fortunate to have you by his side and caring so much about what he is going through. I wish him success with the treatments. Please keep us updated on how he is doing and know that we are always here to support both of you. Being a caregiver can also be stressful so please reach out at any time. 1. Toni57 - I am not a medical professional but know that BCG is frequently recommended for stage 1. I believe that normally 6 treatments - 1 a week - are given followed by a cystoscopy to see how well the treatments worked. I have read that maintenance treatments and follow ups are also recommended as it is important to keep vigilant with this disease. Wishing your husband success with this treatment. Please let us know how he is doing with his subsequent treatments. Sending hugs and prayers your way. Linda Urbanski ( moderator, bladdercancer.net team member)

  4. is your husband's doctor an oncologist? If not, I would recommend getting a second opinion from a urological oncologist.

    1. @Toni57 - I am happy to hear that your husbands doctor is a uro/oncologist and has many years of experience. Mine was also though without as many years experience, he was very well known and respected, Having a team that you are confident in and comfortable with makes this journey a bit easier. Please keep us updated on how thing are going with both of you. Being a caregiver can be very stressful also so take the time you need for yourself also. Thinking of you both Linda Urbanski ( moderator, Bladdercancer.net team member)
