Happy New Year

Last week I had a Cystoscopy and they found a 1cm tumor. They are going to to a TURB? and remove the tumor. I am very apprehensive about what lies ahead. Oddly one of my biggest fears is the insertion of the rigid scope to do the procedure. They had to expand my urethra to get the flexible scope in and it hurt like hell and was painful for a few days.

  1. You will most likely be under a general anesthesia for the TURBT. You may still have some pain afterwards but it should be nothing like inserting the camera while awake.

    1. wow. Time flies indeed, 6 weeks already. Glad to see you are progressing well. Swelling and pain is very common. I am not medically trained but I know other males have shared and said it usually goes away completely at the 8-12 week mark. Laura, Moderator, BladderCancer.net

    2. wow! Bravo for being active and for pushing your fitness limits! I am afraid I would allow my diagnosis and struggles keep me too fragile. I'd be afraid to push my limits. Thank you for showing there is no need for such a fear! You are super inspirational. Hoping to hear more of your successes soon! All my best, Charles (Moderator / BladderCancer.net)

  2. hi. Hope all goes well with the TURBT. Here is an article which helps explain it and may help. Pl see let us know how you get on. https://bladdercancer.net/diagnosis/turbt-transurethral-resection Laura, Moderator, Bladdercancer.net

    1. I am so sorry to hear about your tumor. I am not a medical professional, just a dorky caregiver. They will most likely perform a TURBT, or transurethral resection of a bladder tumor. My Mom was never a fan of them, but she always welcomed the opportunity to get the tumors and cancerous cells out of her bladder. There is nothing odd about your concerns, they are valid. I would be afraid of that rigid scope as well! But as Stu mentioned, you will likely be under general anesthesia and won't suffer in the immediate. Healing is usually pretty easy for most. Please let us know how you get along. Wishing you all the best, Charles (Moderator / BladderCancer.net)
