Just had second bladder procedure to remove 4 more tumors and have BCG question

I’m so fortunate that the five tumors I have had removed were not in the wall.
After my last procedure I also received a BCG treatment. Days two thru four after were pure hell due to high fever, chills, vomiting and migraine.
On my follow up visit my Dr seemed basically surprised to hear and thought there may have been a perforation when removing one of the tumors and some of the BCG got out.
Granted, I still need to, and will, move forward with this regardless but am trying to manage my expectations. I apologize in advance for what to me seems like more of a whine than a valid question. Just trying to prepare.

Regards

  1. @CommunityMemberfb64c8 - I am not a medical professional but know that the side effects from BCG can vary greatly among patients. I did not choose to have this treatment so cannot respond from personal experience but the below article may provide some answers. You can also use the search button on the FB page to find other articles on this subject as well. Wishing you the best. 1. Thank you for reaching out. I was aggressive stage one with pre-cancer cells found in my urethra along with being CIS. I decided that I had too many other things going on in my life to take the chance that BCG did not work so I chose to go ahead with bladder removal and illeal conduit surgery. I was out of the hospital in 5 days, back working at 4 weeks and 100% at 2 months. That choice is not for everyone but I am happy with my choice and never once have regretted it almost 9 years later. I wish you the best. Linda Urbanski (moderator, Bladdercancer.net team member)

    2. CommunityMemberfb64c8 - thank you for your comment. It is not whining at all but providing a situation that happened to you and informing others of this possibility. I am not a medical professional but know that any surgical procedure is risky and that BCG can provide a wide variety of side effects. I wish you well and hope that your future treatments are uneventful and that the treatments are successful. Keep us updated on how you are doing. 2. @CommunityMemberfb64c8 - Something that I neglected to mention is that some patients state that the side effects can increase for each weekly dose where others have minimal side effects. I know that some people suggest AZO and making sure to drink plenty of water to flush things out of your system. What has your doctor indicated to expect or suggested to do for these side effects. I assume that others will comment on their treatment and how it impacted them. I hope that things are easier with your future treatments and that it is successful. 1. I had 14 instillations since diagnosis of non invasive bladder cancer. It is a cumulative treatment whereby I ended up with chemical cystitis and have it to this day. Most patients I think sail through treatments, I'm sure I'm an exception. Of course I'm grateful it has kept my cancer at bay, just need to try and get back to feeling normal. Do keep us posted on how you progress.
