Medication to Ease Pain from post TURBT Foley Catheter Related Bladder Spasms

I will have a routine re TURBT in a few weeks before starting bcg, as a result of T1Hg NMIBC diagnosis.

The night after and day after first TURBT were very very uncomfortable due to very frequent bladder spasms from Foley catheter. They hurt like @#$&. I know it was catheter related because when I removed it next day…no spasms. The catheter was in for the rest of day of surgery and day after. I removed it following morning per their instructions.

I had a lot of pain meds in recovery, but when they sent me home I only had a prescription for pyridium and told to use tylenol. That clearly didn’t work. I had a few NORCO left over from shoulder replacement surgery and used those at night to help me sleep but didn’t have enough to use during day.

Any suggestions for better pain management? Should I ask dc to prescribe maybe 6 NORCO pills to get me through two nights and maybe the full day after.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

  1. I am not medically trained and I don’t have any personal experience to share. I would say definitely discuss with your medical team how the pain can be better managed. I am sure others here will share from their experiences. Laura, Moderator, BladderCancer.net

    1. Hi. How are you getting on? Did you get to speak to your medical team about pain management? How did your TURBT go? Laura, Moderator, BladderCancer.net

      1. Doc prescribed more pain and anti spasm drugs for upcoming second TURBT on 6/24.

        1. glad the doctor was able to prescribe more drugs to help. Good luck for Friday. I will be thinking of you. Let us know how you go. Laura, Moderator, BladderCancer.net
