Newly diagnosed FEMALE

I am elderly female, recently diagnosed with bladder cancer after complaining of hematuria, urgency and discomfort. I live alone and in a new area where I don’t know anyone. Cystoscopy showed multiple growths and Dr said “you have cancer”. Pathologist writes “suspicious for high grade urothelial carcinoma”. I have a TURBT scheduled for early June. I don’t know much about those.

I have some lower back pain but my greatest complaint is the extreme fatigue that I’ve been experiencing. Literally will startle myself awake while standing waiting for the microwave to finish warm up something. Do any of you have this kind of fatigue? Do any of you know why I have it?

  1. Hi I am sure this is all very overwhelming for you. And on top of your diagnosis, you are in a new area where you don't know anyone yet. We are here for you and I hope I can help you with some information. Here is an article about TURBT: https://bladdercancer.net/diagnosis/turbt-transurethral-resection. In addition, here is an article about fatigue: https://bladdercancer.net/symptoms/fatigue. Please reach out whenever you need. Sending you lots of strength. Jill (Team Member)

    1. Hi, Jill- thanks for reaching out.. I had a TURBT about 2 weeks ago. Still sore! The doctor removed several tumors and has told me that I have “aggressive” cancer, but that it was caught early. I have chemotherapy planned for 6 consecutive weeks in which chemo will be placed into the bladder for a couple of hours and then removed. It will not be the kind of chemo that makes hair fall out, so I’m glad about that! I don’t know if I’ll be sick, though..do you or anyone out there know?

Anyway, kinda nervous about the whole process, but encouraged knowing the cancer was caught early.

Any and all general advice/info etc would be greatly appreciated!

      Robyn

      1. I am glad to hear that it was caught early and you already have a plan in place. Side effects from chemo vary from person to person so it is hard to say how you will react. I can understand why you would be concerned but like you said, it is encouraging to know the cancer was caught early. I am sending you over an article from one of our member's with her experience with chemo, I hope this is helpful for you: https://bladdercancer.net/living/intravesical-chemo. Please keep us posted on how you are doing. Jill (Team Member)
