Pain in pelvic and penis after completion of gerzam chemo and radiation

My husband has completed 36 radiations and 6 Gemzar chemos. Towards the end, he was Catherized as he could not completely empty his bladder. That has been removed and he was fine for two days. He has trouble urinating and today has considerable pain. Is this normal? He had a urine test that showed bacterial infection and took 7 days of amoxicillin. Anyone else have this pain?

  1. @Susanq - Everyone seems to experience different side effects from treatments so there is not anything that seems to hold true for every patient. I am not a medical professional but would certainly consult the doctor is he continues to be unable to urinate. That was a problem that I had and I needed a foley catheter for a while. I hope that his infection clears up soon and that he is able to urinate normally. Please keep us updated on his progress. My best Linda Urbanski ( moderator, Bladdercancer.net team member)

    1. hi. Thoughts with both you and your husband. I am not medically trained or have any personal experience to share. As Linda says, each case is different. This might help you read of one person’s experience. https://bladdercancer.net/living/chemo-side-effects hope things get better for him soon. Sending positive vibes to you both from Scotland. 1. hello there. I am so sorry to read of your husband's troubles. I cannot imagine how beat up his bladder is! I am also not a medically trained professional, just a dorky caregiver. It is possible for chemo to burn and inflame the inside of the bladder, which could easily explain what he's feeling. On top of that, an infection is further inflammation of those beat up tissues. Definitely continue to monitor and be in communication with your medical team. I wish peace for your mind and heart. May healing and health come for your husband post-haste. All the best, Charles (Moderator / BladderCancer.net)
