Thought I was cured

I first was diagnosed with bladder cancer at 49 years and had surgery to remove a posterior TCC which I believe is called something else now. After surgery I ended up with Pudendal Neuralgia which has had a huge impact on my life. After all this time I thought I was cured as for most cancers it’s considered a cure after 5 years. Recently I am having the same symptoms I had in the first place. I have been cleared medically of having any UTI’s and have yet to go for scans to look for the return of bladder cancer. I remember a nurse telling me that bladder cancers are like garden weeds and you have to keep weeding them out! Wow! That got to me! Now after 10 - 11 years could it be back? Even if it is back I won’t do anything about it most likely because of the Pudendal neuralgia it caused the first time but I need to know regardless. Has anyone else experienced similar situations and got it back after all this time?

  1. hi. Thanks for sharing your experience. I don’t have any personal experience to share but I wish you well. Laura, Moderator, BladderCancer.net

    1. Thank you Laura for your kind reply 😊

  2. @Jezze - I am not familiar with PN that you have and am sorry that it is impacting your life so much. I do hope that you consider speaking with your medical provider to find out what is causing these symptoms again. I think that you might feel better knowing what it is and dealing with it one way or the other versus guessing. Sometimes the guessing game creates more questions and stress than answers. Please keep us updated on how you are and what you have found out. Sending prayers and positive thoughts your way. My best. Linda Urbanski ( moderator, Bladdercancer.net team member)

    1. @Jezze - I hope that you are able to find some relief for this chronic pain soon. Possibly someone else on here will have the same condition and provide some thoughts. I do know that with the removal of lymph nodes, lymphedema can be an issue for some people and causes swelling and some pain the similar areas. Unfortunately I think that there are conditions that we are not aware of becoming a reality until we begin to suffer the symptoms. Thank you for being so open about your condition. My best to you. 2. hi. How are things with you? Laura, Moderator, BladderCancer.net

  3. @Jezze - thank you for responding to my post by explaining the condition that you have. I have never heard of it so I thank you for the clear explanation. I hope that you find that your cancer has not returned as clearly you are going through enough. Sending hugs and prayers your way and hoping for good news. Please keep us posted and know that we are thinking of you. Linda Urbanski ( moderator, Bladdercancer.net team member)

    1. i was diagnosed with bladder cancer in March of this year. I had the tumor removed and had the 6 BCG treatments. I go back this month on 22nd to see if the treatments helped. I was told that I will more treatments in the future because tumors grow back. I have a lot of pain and am very tired all the time now. I am only 72 and miss the energy I use to have. I sometimes have to take half of a pain tablet. I am the caregiver of my daughter with mental disabilities, cerebal palsy as wells as diabetes and epilepsy. She is 54 yrs. old with a mentality of a toddler so I can't take anything that makes me sleepy. I have to turn her sleeping position and change her pull up every 2-3 hour during the night this bladder cancer has added a lot of stress to my life. I know I am not alone, I looked up my county to see the percentage of people that suffer with bladder cancer. I feel blessed that I have a CCNP doing my treatments who explained everything to me. So hang in there and remember you are not alone with bladder cancer. God bless you.

      1. @Communitymember302 - you certain have a lot going on in your life yet seem to be handling it the best you are able. Is it possible to have any assistance for your daughter at least while going through treatments? For all that you have going on your have a great attitude and I commend you for that. Hoping that things improve and you are able to get the BCG over and it is successful. Keep us posted as we are here to support you. My best Linda Urbanski ( moderator, Bladdercancer.net team member)

      2. wow, you certainly have your hands full. Isn't that amazing, how someone so lovingly busy would then be given a bladder cancer diagnosis? It seems so unfair to me, but what good does such thoughts do us? I love that you ended your share with encouragement of your fellow community member. Bravo! I love that we are creating a community of support here. Sending all my best for continued health and energy, Charles (Moderator / BladderCancer.net)
