Leakage after RC surgery

I had my surgery on 12/12/22. Surgery and recovery was very easy for me. I have two questions and one pertains to mostly males.

1. Since my surgery recovery at home I have been leaking abdominal fluid from my penis. Not enough to warrant a diaper but enough to make you wet. Has anyone had this happen to them? No pain or blood.

2. Where my main cut is I feel pinching for a lack of better word. It is completely healed. I also feel different pulling sensations around my abdomen. Was this part of your healing process?

I had my first CT scan after my surgery last week and the report came back good. I am thankful for all the support and advice from all of you on this site. We are truly in this all together.

  1. hi. Glad to hear you recovered well. I am not male but I had discharge after my RC and it is common for males and females. I wore a panty liner during this time. I also experienced that pinching. It is your body healing inside. It takes around 9-12 months plus to fully heal inside after an RC. Glad your scan was clear. Hopefully other males will chime in with additional comments. Laura, Moderator, BladderCancer

    1. thank you. I have using a liner also. Since it small amounts I am imagining it will go on for a while.

    2. for me it went on for about 3-4 months and lessened and then stopped. Laura, Moderator, BladderCancer.net

  2. Ed Webb: I had my RC 6 months ago with bladder and prostate removed. I have felt an occasional drop of fluid on my leg also. At this point nothing to be concerned about but come tomorrow? who knows. Life's a box of chocolates... The best news is that I am here writing this, it's beautiful outside and I still see family and friends and remember all the good things in life.

    1. love your positivity. Hoping today is a good day for you. Your positive attitude will serve you well. Laura, Moderator, BladderCancer.net

I could learn from you! Hoping you continue to get on well and that we hear more good news from you soon. All my best, Charles (Moderator / BladderCancer.net)

  3. I had neobladder surgery nine months ago. Surgery and recovery were incredibly easy - except for the 3 weeks post-op with the catheter. No pain and little inconvenience since. I still dribble when my bladder is full and I'm not thinking about going to pee, so I'm wearing disposables 24/7. I tried going back to cotton briefs for one day and quit. Wasn't worth it. No leakage of other fluid as you described, but I do routinely wipe myself after peeing - the presence of mucus is part of the new normal so I don't sweat it. I never had any discomfort in the region of the scar. Hope yours clears up in time.

    1. @Communitymember0cd1a5 - You are completely correct - that you are able to write about your journey and share with others for their benefit. Regardless of the struggles and challenges we may go through with treatments, surgeries and recovery, if it keep the cancer at bay or rids our bodies of it and allows us to go on living a good life, then it was worth it. My best to you. Linda Urbanski ( moderator, Bladdercancer.net team member)

    2. wow amazing! What an incredible journey. These are things I hadn't imagined or considered. My Mom never went through with RC, so my experience in that department is lacking for sure. So you had nephrostomy tubes in both kidneys? Holy moly, no wonder you weren't able to sleep. There was likely no putting weight on your back and having any comfort. You are a soldier. Thank you for sharing! I imagine you have contributed greatly to someone's journey simply with this reply. Wishing you all the best for continued thriving! Charles (Moderator / BladderCancer.net)

  4. I had my surgery on 12/8/2022. About the same time as you. I had a drain tube for about a week after I came home. But, yeah I did have some noticeable drainage, but not for long. I still have enough to create a crust that I just wash off, but none that seems to get on my clothes.
I'm not sure about the second question. I don't feel any pulling or pinching near my scar, but I may have earlier. I do notice my abdomen feels different, but I can't really explain how. Just its now got a hole and it needs to heal. If you feel something you don't think is related to healing maybe talk to your surgeon.

    1. bravo and thank you for sharing your journey. It's amazing how we can all feel things differently depending on our bodies, the procedures, and how we heal. The body is so fascinating! Glad your healing seems to be going amazingly great and I hope you are getting along splendidly. Wishing you all the best and hoping for more good news for ya! 2. @Charles Anthony Ulloa - as my mother used to say - "any port in a storm!" RC/IC people have some pretty funny stories about alternative "bathrooms" we have used on our travels......... My best Linda Urbanski (moderator, Bladdercancer.net team member)
