Surgery

My son was turned down for bladder cancer removal becausetgey said it was in his groin lymph nodes and pelvis ???? Anyone else been turned down for surgery because of that??

  1. I am sorry to hear that, been thinking of you. I am not medically trained but from what I know is that generally if it has spread beyond the pelvic area, including into lymph nodes, they would not perform bladder removal. I would ask the medical team to explain the reason to you. Thinking of you both. Laura, Moderator, BladderCancer.net

    1. @celtlady - Just read your question and I wish I could provide something specific. Were your son's doctors able to provide other options for further treatment? If other options were not mentioned at that time I would suggest discussing others with the doctors as soon as possible. There seem to be clinical trials that might be something to ask about. Sending prayers that other options come your way very soon. My best Linda ( moderator, Bladdercancer.net team member)

  2. So sorry to hear that. I know how devastating it is to hear those words. After going thru chemo, another scan was done that showed cancer in several other places including my groin area. I was told that the surgery would not do me any good since it had spread. The doctor said it was inoperable. I asked him to please do a biopsy and he consented. It may not be the same for everyone, but after a biopsy of the groin and upper chest area came back non cancer, they went ahead and done a radical cystectomy. The groin area and chest area they concluded was inflammation in lymph nodes caused by the RA. Praying that all goes well with your son!

    1. thanks for sharing this encouraging post. How are you getting on now? Laura, Moderator, BladderCancer.net

    2. @jay60 - That is definitely great news. I am praying that your good news and test results continue to show you are NED. This is not an easy journey but each year we have no signs of cancer it is just a little bit easier. My very best to you !! Linda ( moderator, Bladdercancer.net team member)
