TURBT Hi Grade Urothelial Carcinomo

74 year old healthy male. Had the surgery on 11/8/23. Found a 2.5 cm tumor. Removed and had chemo in bladder same day. In my head I'm wanting the bladder gone. It is obviously diseased and with the cancer being Hi grade it is very likely to return. Have to wait till 12/27 to have a second TURBT to make sure there is no more cancer and look at muscle wall.

Had a catheter for 5 days after the surgery. Had bleeding the entire time it was in. After I removed it had some bleeding that day then could no longer see urine or clots till this week. In fairness I did something stupid. I carried groceries in this week. Lifted 4 cases of 24 can cola without thinking. I did not think. Just lifted them an carried them. I had blood in my urine the next day. Freaking out again now.

My Urologist wants to do this next surgery and then "watch" which means more scopes every 2-3 months and maybe more in bladder chemo or BCG therapy.

Has anyone had bleeding after 4 weeks? thoughts on skipping the next TURBT and just going for removing the bladder.

Thanks

Mike

  1. Hi I am glad you reached out. I can understand why you would be concerned. I do hope our community members respond here with their personal experiences. In the meantime, have you had a chance to mention your bleeding to your doctor? If not, I would encourage you to do so, just to be safe and to let them know. Also, have you asked your doctor if they would recommend just going for removal instead of watching and waiting? All of this can be very overwhelming, we are here for you! 1. I have not had bleeding 4 weeks after TURBT. Probably should inform doctor. What stage did pathology come back as? BCG is the normal first line treatment for most TA/T1 high grade. Bladder removal is major surgery and it has risks. Wishing you a speed recovery!
