Incontinence and constipation after TURBT

Hello, 74 y.o. man here. Had a 7cm tumor removed from my bladder on 12/18 and finally released from hospital on 12/22. Within a few hours of being home, I became incontinent. (I wasn't before the procedure.) Doctor seems surprised but doesn't really have any helpful advice for me. Anyone with similar experience?

Also, was constipated for several days after procedure. Moving bowels now and stool is soft, but it's still quite difficult to do this. Bowels feel sluggish, and I can feel them squeaking and making noise much of the time. Not pain exactly, but discomfort for sure.

I'm shocked it's taking so long for my body to readjust.

Any comments or experiences would be very welcome, thanks.

  1. Oops, I'm actually 64 not 74. Fat fingers!

  2. Thank you very much, Jill.

    1. I hope you meant a 7 mm growth was removed, 7 cm would be almost 3".

I've had 3 TURBT procedures, and had none of those symptoms. I have had more frequent urges to pee, that goes away after maybe a week. The constipation is likely due to the anesthesia. Metamucil will help with that.

      1. After my TURBT surgery I had to wear a catheter and urinary bag attached to my leg for a week so I was unaware, most of the time, when I was urinating but was aware of the urge to urinate except during the night. I had to empty the bag several times a day. A horrible experience, for sure. As for the constipation, I believe it is caused by the pain med that was given to me. Once I realized what was happening I discontinued the med after the 2nd day. I then doubled up on my magnesium supplements which was helpful.
