Started out in 2014. Had a little evidence of blood in my urine so I mentioned it to my Primary Care Doctor. She was concerned and sent me in for ultrasound. Well that showed a cyst on my left kidney so I got routed to a urologist. He called for a CAT Scan... Results showed what he thought was a begin cyst in the kidney and said it would probably never bother anything, and he was right... It has stayed stable ever since. BUT, and that is a big BUT, it revealed a mass in my bladder and he wanted to send a sample in for testing. Well low and behold, it was Cancer! So in I go for a pet scan and those results were not encouraging. It showed up in the bladder, the walls, lymph nodes as well as prostrate. Next step was to remove the tumor and clean up the majority of the damage, and those results determined I had stage 4 Bladder Cancer and there was very little hope of saving my bladder.
The chemo and surgery to remove the Bladder went as expected, recovery was slow... More CT scans, more chemo, more tests and to make matters even worse my heart kept slipping into and out of Afib. Oncology said it was probably the chemo. A couple of Cardio Versions later it settled down.
All in all 12 years after this trip started I'm still vertical and feel very Blessed.
