Should I have a cystectomy?

Diagnosed 6/30/2016 with bladder cancer. After initial chemotherapy, right kidney and ureter removed. Multiple BCG cycles, cystoscopies, TURBTs, clinical trial and still have high grade CIS. Further treatment or RC?

  1. That is a big decision. What has your medical team determined are the best options for moving forward? I was diagnosed with high grade stage one. After 2 TURBTS I had CIS which is aggressive. I chose to move forward with RC/IC in 2014 and have never regretted it or looked back. For me it was a easy decision but that is now always the case. I would determine the pros and cons, discuss this with your doctor. If you choose RC, you may have 3 choices of diversion. I suggest discussing those with people who have had that diversion versus someone who has not. Whichever you choose, let it be the best choice for you and what you want. Good luck with your decision and know that we are always here to provide support at any time. Keep us updated and feel free to ask more questions if that will help with your decision. My best to you. 1. hi. It is a big decision to make. It is important you have all the facts and review each viable option. What is the advice from your medical team? If you are considering an RC, this is a good introduction article, to learn more about it. https://bladdercancer.net/treatment/bladder-removal-cystectomy I and many others on here, have had their bladder removed. Please feel free to ask any specific questions you may have. Laura, Moderator, BladderCancer.net
