In office low grade tumor removal

Has anyone underwent a low grade recurrence tumor removal in the office during cystoscopy? I’ve had 7 TURBTs all low grade. I have a new urological oncologist who states if I have small recurrences (1-2 less than 1cm each) he can remove them in the office at the time of my follow up cysto. This has never been offered to me. Has anyone had this done in the office? What was your experience?

  1. We do have an article here or there on outptient tumor removal:

It may help to give you a bit of insight or at least a place to start. If anything, let us know if there's more we can help with! Keep on keepin' on, DPM

  2. I have had NMIBC intermediate grade recurrent cancer for 9 years. I had 9 turbts. I have cystoscopies every 4 months. I have been thru 3 BCG series + many immuno- therapies including gemcitabine, gemcitabine/docetaxel together and mitomycin. I had short spurts with no cancer but then it comes back as small tumors. At my last two cystoscpies my urologist suggested that he remove very small tumors in the office. I agreed and he did so with 2 small tumors at my last cysto. It was not particularly painful and is over quickly. My experience was a slight stinging sensation but nothing horrible. I think this is better than another Turbt. My bladder is already full of scar tissue from all the turbts I had before. I would encourage you to try. If you have a similar experience to me it will be the right decision. Hope this helps. Good Luck,

    1. Thank you for sharing this insight! I'm sure our community and Lisa will appreciate it. Also remember, you yourself if you need anything please ask! Keep on keepin' on, DPM

  3. I have had 4 TURBT's. They have removed cancer tumors on three of them.

  4. I have had small tumors removed in the office a couple of times. It does pinch a little but well worth it. It’s not really painful. Almost feels like a quick burn and then it’s over. No after effects or limitations. Sure beats surgery.

    Wish you the best.

    1. If you are at all nervous about the in office removal of the tumors, ask your doctor for a Valium to help relax you. It helps me with my anxiety during the cystoscopy.
