Survived Thanks To Bladder Removal

I had the TURBT procedure twice. First because I was passing blood. Same day I was scoped and scheduled for surgery. Unfortunately a clot blocked my bladder and I had horrible bladder spasms. Extremely painful, after two ER visits they were able to clear it. I ended up passing out from the pain. Overnight stay in hospital, catheter out next day. Had six weeks of chemo. Following scope showed more tumors. Another TURBT found four tumors. Bladder removed and now I have a stoma. Wearing a bag for six years and cancer free. Does not affect daily activity and saved my life. Important, ANY SYMPTOMS see a doctor ASAP. A NP told me some people wait too long and nothing can be done.

  1. Hi this must have been so scary for you. I am so glad to hear this is all behind you and you are cancer free. I am also happy to hear your stoma does not affect your activity and you are doing well. Thanks for sharing. Jill (Team Member)

    1. Thank you. It was a real 8 month journey, but as I said saved my life. Amazing health team. I’m truly blessed that Mercy Hospital in Lorain Ohio has two amazing stoma nurses. They have been such a support and source of information for the last almost seven years. In addition we are lucky to have an in-person support group that meets six times a year. I have picked up two tips that were game changers for me in maintenance of my stoma.
