Catheters

Hello - had my bladder removed 20 years ago. Got a stoma. About 4 years after, discovered my kidneys aren’t completely draining because of how the ureters are attached to the stoma. Stents were put in to keep the utters open. Years later my doctor changed to catheters in my ureters. Easier to replace and I can flush them. But ever since I got the catheters I’ve had infections. Probably because they are sticking outside of my stoma and exposed. Just wondering if anyone else out there is experiencing this same issue. I can’t keep taking antibiotics.

  1. Hi I am glad you reached out and I hope our community members respond to this thread with their experiences. While we are waiting, what does your doctor suggest you can do? Jill (Team Member)

    1. Hi - my doctor isn’t suggesting another option

      1. I think at that point there is two options - decide to go with your doctor's suggestion or, if you feel strongly enough, seek out a second opinion. I have NOT done that a bunch of times because it is such a hassle, admittedly, but the one or two times I did I was thankful I ended up doing it. If you tell the doc you are looking for a second opinion when you see the new one, they sometimes even give a little bit extra effort just to make sure, at least in my experience. Let us know what you decide and we can try to help from here! Keep on keepin' on, DPM
